The city of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada is one of the fastest growing cities in the world. As such, there needs to be certain integrated processes that allow the population to live their lives with zero infrastructure worries. Wastewater is one of the elements that needs to be taken care of. Recently the city had a problem in their wastewater collection system that needed solving. This is where Siemens came in.
The problem was, one of Edmonton’s wastewater pumping stations had issues with an existing level controller. Pumps were switching on and off when they weren’t supposed to and the risk of flooding was increasing exponentially. Furthermore, the majority of Edmonton’s wet wells are located near houses, so flooding would be a huge problem. From there, the city contacted a Siemens channel partner solve the issue.
Taking all the factors and risks into consideration, a SITRANS LUT400 ultrasonic level and pump controller was delivered and installed. It was quickly and easily connected to an Echomax XPS-15 Transducer, which they mounted to a wet well. Programming took a few minutes, as the operator was able to connect the controller to his laptop via a USB cable. Immediately after installation, signal strength and signal-to-noise ratio improved dramatically. The LUT400 reported accurate level measurements and was now reliably controlling the pumps. Other benefits included low maintenance, cost savings and increased safety. Another problem solved using one of Siemens products!
