Pulse Control Systems recently engaged with a project for a new cement manufacturing company situated on the Samancor site in Middleburg, Mpumalanga. The problem they needed solving was to allow for safe and reliable level measurement on their two final product silos.
Their method at the time was using a string with a metal weight to dip the level from the top of the silo. This was not only a safety risk but also an innaccurate method, as the dipping weight could lie on any part of the product slope. Pulse proposed the SITRANS LR560 78gHz solids radar level transmitter with built in process intelligence. This instrument automatically adjusts the radar measurement according to the product type and suppresses false echoes that bounce off structure bracings. The LR560 utilises the high frequency and emits only 4° beam angle that reflects off any solids product type, no matter how fine it is. These products were installed alongside a Unitronics local display PLC.
Upon completion, the company was given total peace of mind knowing that they could accurately and remotely monitor the silo levels inside the weighbridge room of their facility.
